Burnished Concrete Floors are slightly different to the usual Polished Concrete Floors – and here are some reasons why!

Burnished Concrete Floors are an alternative form of flooring you can have in your personal or industrial space.

They are still concrete and still have a level of shine (similarly to polished concrete floors) however, there are two main components that differentiate it from polished concrete.

Looks

It is obvious burnished concrete floors are different to polished concrete. The aggregate is missing (the stones that create that familiar speckled pattern) and it has a marbleised look to it.

The colour depends on the concrete and the technique, however the general pattern is always a cloudy and smoky design.

It is great for factories, garages, retail spaces, offices and other high-traffic spaces as it offers a polished and modern look that is slightly more subtle than polished concrete floors.

Process

Burnished concrete floors use existing concrete slabs and polishing tools to get a burnished effect. The machine used to create the look is called a burnisher. It spins at a high speed and melts and buffs the chemical added to create the design and shiny surface. By buffing and melting, the pores of the concrete open and absorbs the chemicals.

For a glossier appearance, a densifier is used – which is a secondary chemical that creates that reflective shine.

If you are familiar by now with the grind and seal process, you can tell that this is slightly different procedure – just as acid etch is a slightly different procedure (which includes the use of acid as a wash).

However, individuals and businesses have different tastes – this is just one of the many solutions you can choose to explore when deciding you upgrade your concrete floors!
