Pool Surrounds

Polished concrete around your pool is an obvious choice as the area will be heavily exposed to water and chlorine. It’s a surface that is resistant to water damage, the potential corrosiveness of chlorine and staining. Additionally, the smooth yet slip-resistant nature of polished concrete will enhance safety.

Acid Etching

Acid etched concrete is particularly useful for its non-slip properties. It is comfortable under foot unlike exposed aggregate.

We begin by grinding the concrete to full exposure. Once scratches and other marks have been removed, a mix of 50% water and 50% hydrochloric acid will be spread evenly around, ‘etching’ the stone. The concrete will then be pressure cleaned, dried and sealed with a polyurethane sealer. The final result is a flat, non- slip finish that is safe for bare feet around the pool.

Grind and Seal

This method involves grinding back the top layer of concrete to show as much aggregate as you desire. Finer diamonds are then used to remove visible scratching to ensure a flat surface that is ready for coating. A protective sealer is applied and you can choose between matte, semi-gloss or high gloss. 

With such a sealant, the surface is resistant against stains, wear and tear, and provides moisture protection. Being non-porous means it’s easy to clean, is chemical resistant and organic growth is minimised. Grind and seal offers slip resistance, which makes it an ideal choice for pool areas.
