For our latest work, we ventured out to the suburb of Dandenong to play our part in the refurbishment of this local petrol station. With a floor of worn-out old tiles, the petrol station was looking worse for wear and in desperate need of some love and attention… and the full exposure polished concrete treatment.
Reinvigorating Spaces with Full Exposure Polished Concrete
For an instant hit of life and lustre, full exposure polished concrete Dandenong is the way to go. Being “full exposure,” the surface layers of the slab are thoroughly ground down until the aggregate underneath is heavily revealed. As you can see, the concrete used at this Dandenong petrol station had a brown tint bursting with contrasting black stones. This made the room feel full and lively, enhancing the décor inside.
How We Applied Full Exposure Polished Concrete in Dandenong
Fortunately, for this job, the petrol station already had a high-quality slab of concrete buried beneath the tiles. After removing and disposing of these tiles, we were gifted with a perfectly fine base slab to work with. We immediately set to work, with one team dealing with the tiles while another began bringing in and setting up the grinders. Once we had finished laying down the groundwork, we started to slowly grind down the now-bare slab until full exposure was reached. While the aggregate pattern was inconsistent in some parts and the outline of the tiles remained, we felt this added a certain rustic character and charm, making our job easier while ensuring a satisfactory final product.
