Check out our latest driveway job – the owners chose Acid Etch Brighton to create a great first impression.
For this driveway, we visited the idyllic inner Melbourne suburb of Brighton to lay and polish a small concrete acid etch driveway.
The result was a gorgeous slab of black concrete with flourishes of white and orange stones smattered throughout. Exuding a jazzy, sophisticated aura, it highlighted the contemporary architecture of the house behind it and injected life into the entire street.
To achieve this style, we used a darkened cement combined with a thick aggregate of dark, light, and orange stones for a touch of colour. Once the concrete was dry, we applied an acidic compound to the surface to remove the top layers and expose the aggregate underneath. From this style of acid etching emanates a rough, nuanced look that appears natural and organic. It differs wildly from polished concrete, which uses a grinder to mechanically polish the surface for a smooth, industrial aesthetic.
Acid etching also makes the concrete surface durable and non-slip, which is perfect for driveways. Suitable for all outdoor driveways, patios, paths, and more, it has become a popular choice in rainy Melbourne. Best of all, compared to the intensive work and bulky machinery required when polishing a concrete floor, acid etching is relatively simple and can be completed within a few days.
We can also adjust the style and colours to accommodate your decor. In this case, we darkened the concrete and added more black pebbles. Our customer also told us they wanted something to spice up their driveway and make it different from the rest. We achieved this through the subtle use of orange pebbles, adding flair but without altering the original aesthetic.
